Work-life Balance of Weavers in THIRUVANANTHAPURAM District: A Comprehensive Study

Handloom weavers in Thiruvananthapuram district face mounting pressures that strain the delicate balance between their work and personal lives. This research draws on responses from 250 weavers across different weaving hubs to understand these pressures. What emerges is a troubling picture: extended work hours, financial instability, poor facilities, and weak safety nets combine to undermine weavers' quality of life. We used both numbers and narratives—quantitative surveys alongside qualitative conversations—to paint a full picture of weavers' socio-economic realities and suggest policy changes that might help.
