This chapter explores how modern Malaysian consumer behavior is being reshaped by rapid digital adoption, evolving cultural values, and post-pandemic lifestyle shifts. It examines the rise of the wallet revolution, where e-wallets and QR payments have become the preferred mode of transaction and have enabled a seamless omnichannel retail environment. The discussion contrasts the distinct consumption patterns of Millennials and Generation Z, highlighting differences in their social media habits, digital expectations, and purchasing values. The chapter also explains the growing shift toward experiential consumption, reflecting a preference for meaningful activities and memorable moments rather than material ownership. In addition, it analyses the rise of conscious consumption, shaped by sustainability concerns, support for local small and medium enterprises through the Sapot Lokal movement, and the principles of Halal an Toyyiban. The chapter concludes by examining the persistence of post-pandemic behaviors, particularly the habit of shopping around across multiple channels, which now characterizes the Malaysian marketplace and reflects a broader transition toward digitally empowered and value-driven decision making.
