GENDER EQUALITY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Gender bias is a very dangerous type because it is the woman who gets bullied every time! Due to the existence of unnecessary customs, traditions and bad practices in society, their influence is felt even today on the social mind. Gender bias is a mindset that has evolved from it. Indian Constitution and personally Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar always emphasized on the empowerment of women. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the Chairman of the Drafting committee of Indian Constitution once said, "I measure the progress of a community by the degree of progress women have achieved". Every right in the list of fundamental rights can be enjoyed by women. We see discrimination based on gender in every case. The Indian Constitution provides a legal deterrent to acts of gender-based prejudice and inequality. Articles 14 and 15 of the Indian Constitution prohibit the State from discriminating based on sex; and as per Article 15 (3) nothing in this Article shall prevent the State from making special arrangements for women and children. Due to gender bias in India, there are some major areas where women face discrimination. They include less access to education and employment, less representation in political positions, poorer health, and nutrition than men, and, most obviously, violence against women.
