The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), shifting from linear to more circular, local, and holistic strategies. To effectively address SDGs, contextually relevant solutions must be developed through partnerships with local communities and governance agencies. It is essential that knowledge driving change is locally owned and not imposed from outside. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have a crucial role in fostering mutual trust and collaboration with local entities to create solutions. They should embrace local knowledge and integrate it with their academic expertise. Community-based Participatory Research has emerged as a valuable method for co-creating knowledge. HEIs must also adapt their teaching and curricula to prepare future professionals with the necessary skills to help build back better after the pandemic. India offers a supportive policy environment for HEIs to contribute to achieving SDGs. The leadership within these institutions must actively engage in driving India's progress towards equitable SDG achievement by 2030.
